THE IMPACT OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (ECE) IN PREVENTING DROPOUT RATES AMONG NIGERIAN STUDENTS

Abstract: This study examines the pivotal impact of early childhood education (ECE) in mitigating school dropout rates among Nigerian students. Objectives include investigating the impact of ECE experiences on academic engagement, identifying risk factors contributing to dropout, and assessing the effectiveness of early interventions in promoting educational continuity. Utilizing a survey research design, data will be collected from educators, parents, and educational policymakers Anambra State. The sample size of 126 was used, derived using Taro Yamane's formula, ensures robust representation and statistical reliability. A case study of schools with successful ECE transition programs will provide detailed insights into effective dropout prevention strategies. The reliability coefficient score of 0.75 ensure data consistency. Findings highlighted the correlations between early educational experiences and reduced dropout rates, offering implications for policy and practice. Recommendations emphasized early intervention strategies, parental engagement, and holistic support systems to foster educational persistence from an early age in Nigeria.
